It’s a Funny Old Game

After the joys of the previous weekend the ladies team were quickly brought down to earth with the reality of modern day grass roots football. With fifteen available Saturday night, four dropped out and we were forced to go with the bare eleven to the also newly formed Tonyrefail.

This was reduced to ten before the warm up even happened with Jo Barley injuring herself (kicking a ball) before the rest of the team left the dressing room. She soldiered on but was unable to perform to her best.

During the game we suffered several other injuries, Ellie Pass (leg), Monique Bux (foot), Seren Mo (ankle), Ruth Vibes (ribs) all saw us at various points reduced to ten players on the pitch but in reality only 6/7 able to play. The subs that Tonyrefail were able to bring on made a difference as we began to tire and all ladies deserve credit for just finishing the game.

The final score of 6-2, all things considered, was not too bad. Our goals came from free kicks, two great strikes from Seren and Renee , and MOM for the day goes to Cerys Jones for the sheer effort, enthusiasm and ability to continue working hard and smiling when all around became tough.

Well done Tonyrefail, we will see you again soon. We move onto training Weds.

Rest up ladies, we go again.

Phil Butler.
