A Great Start for our Girls Team

It’s been another exciting day at Newport City FC as our new U16 Girls team played their first matches for the club. The girls, captained by Molly O’Brian on her 15th birthday, entered the Caerphilly Castle tournament, playing against teams from last season’s u16 age group (1 year older) so it was always going to a tough test.

In the group stages, we played against Villa Dino, Llanyrafon, Coed Eva and Sulley scoring 8 goals and conceding just 1 Our goals came from Kaja, Naomi, Molly, Grace and Tamsin with Katie making some great saves in goal.

A great 2-0 win against Sully in the semi-final set up a final against Villa Dino. A solid performance from our girls saw them draw 0-0, helped by some great one on one marking from Olivia, but ultimately they fell to a 2-1 defeat in a sudden-death penalty shootout.

Overall the girls put in some great performances against older teams and we are really please with them and looking forward to seeing how they get on in the new season.

We are still looking for new players, so if you are interested in joining Newport City u16 Girls for the new season, get in touch here.
